ASTEYA

Asteya, is the third of the five Yamas, the ethical principles or moral guidelines in yoga philosophy. It is the commitment to non-stealing in all its forms. It digs into stealing time, energy, creativity, truth, and growth from yourself and others.Asteya encourages individuals to refrain from taking what does not belong to them and to respect the rights, boundaries, and possessions of others. This ethical principle goes beyond the obvious act of taking physical property and various aspects of theft, including:

  1. Avoiding physical theft: This aspect of Asteya involves not taking someone else's belongings without permission or engaging in any form of stealing, such as theft, robbery, or fraud.

  2. Honoring commitments: Asteya also pertains to keeping one's promises, being punctual, and respecting agreements with others. Failing to do so can be seen as stealing someone's time, trust, or resources. Respect the yoga classes times.

  3. Respecting others ideas and intellectual property: Asteya extends to not engaging in plagiarism, intellectual property theft, or the unauthorized use of someone else's creative work, ideas, or innovations.

  4. Being honest and transparent: Practicing Asteya means being truthful and open in communication and avoiding lies, deceit, or manipulation that may harm others or provide an unfair advantage.

  5. Cultivating contentment: This aspect of Asteya encourages individuals to be satisfied with what they have and not to covet or envy the possessions, talents, or qualities of others.

Asteya is an integral part of the moral and philosophical framework of yoga, and it serves as a guideline for ethical conduct in one's daily life. By adhering to this principle, individuals can work towards greater integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical responsibility, fostering a sense of personal growth and spiritual development.
